Course Overview
PUAFER006 - Lead an Emergency Control Organisation (Chief Fire Warden) is an in-depth training program designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively manage emergency situations within Australian facilities. Aligned with the rigorous standards of AS3745 and AS4083, this course covers a range of critical elements and performance criteria.
The course begins by focusing on proactive preparation for potential emergencies, involving the identification of possible situations and the gathering, assessment, and application of information about facility emergency scenarios. Participants learn to develop and implement emergency actions in accordance with facility emergency plans.
Undertaking pre-emergency planning is a key aspect, involving active participation in emergency planning committee meetings, training sessions, and regular exercises. The emphasis is on maintaining and updating emergency response procedures, as well as ensuring the accuracy of membership information within the emergency control organisation.
In the event of an emergency, participants are trained to take appropriate actions, including the identification or initiation of emergency signals and warnings. They learn to ensure that emergency stations are attended and operated according to facility response procedures, assess the emergency situation, control entry to affected areas, make informed decisions, and keep others well-informed. Monitoring evacuation progress, receiving or requesting reports of affected areas, and briefing attending emergency services are also crucial components.
The course extensively covers the process of concluding an emergency, ensuring safety and the return of control to the building owner and/or manager. Implementation of procedures for occupants to return to the facility, reporting reinstatement of emergency systems, organizing timely debriefings, compiling reports for the emergency planning committee and management, and meticulous documentation filing are essential skills imparted.
Participants gain hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge, enabling them to lead and coordinate an Emergency Control Organisation effectively. This comprehensive training ensures that Chief Fire Wardens are well-prepared to handle emergencies, safeguard occupants, and maintain compliance with relevant Australian standards throughout the entire emergency management process.
