Course Overview
This concise course in civil construction specialises in trench support installation. It covers practical skills for installing, moving, and removing trench supports, focusing on trenches over 1.5 meters deep. Key aspects include adherence to legal and procedural frameworks, risk management, and effective teamwork and communication. Participants will learn about equipment use, safety protocols, and environmental considerations. The course combines hands-on experience with theoretical knowledge, including project planning, quality requirements, and safety documentation. Ideal for those seeking proficiency in trench support within the construction industry.
Mode of Delivery At Pipeline Training we understand the critical balance between comprehensive training and maintaining productivity. Our RIICCM210E - Install Trench Support course optimally blends eLearning with practical, on-site training. The online theory and knowledge assessment segments offer flexible, accessible learning, ensuring minimal disruption to your daily operations. This allows participants to engage with key theoretical concepts at their own pace, reducing downtime during crucial working hours. Subsequently, our focused on-site practical training, led by industry experts, ensures hands-on experience and performance assessment in real-world scenarios. This approach aligns with your project deadlines, ensuring that your team receives top-tier training without compromising on-site productivity.
We can deliver
100% Face to Face
Or
eLearning (Online Theory & Knowledge Assessment) & On site (face to face) Practical/Performance Training and Assessment
Duration 4 Hours for experienced civil construction workers.
Knowledge Assessment: 45 - 90minutes. (Depending on experience & Language, literacy, numeracy level)
Practical/Performance assessment approx. 90 minutes working in groups.
Space or Location Requirements The work area should be adequately isolated from any other operations for the duration of the assessment.
The location needs to be large enough to allow the safe movement of plant and shoring equipment and made up of materials that can be excavated to a depth to allow shoring equipment to be used.
Task or Site-Specific Requirements:
The basic trench shoring task needs to reflect realistic work requirements and civil construction projects. The dimensions, type and complexity of tasks needs to be consistent with jobs that a person found competent in this unit would be expected to work on.
The learner is not permitted to direct the plant operator, select and inspect lifting equipment and apply slinging techniques during the installation and removal of shoring equipment unless they are a licensed dogger or rigger. The learner may offer assistance in explaining the requirements of the job to a licensed dogger or rigger who is performing these tasks.
Note: The customer is responsible for ensuring the facilities and resources required for training and assessment are available on site.
This includes:
- Job safety analyses (JSAs), and safe work method statements (SWMs)
- A trench minimum 1.5m in depth and the same dimensions as the aluminium or steel shoring box will need to be excavated prior to the day. The shoring box will also need to be installed, moved along or within the trench, and removed from the trench. If you require specific training installing other various trench support systems (i.e acroprops, vertishores) that equipment will also need to be provided.
- The excavator will need have sufficient SWL to lift the shoring box and have inspected and tagged shackle and four leg chains.
- A means of safe access and egress to the trench will need to be provided (i.e Secured ladder, series of steps excavated into trench). Excavation edge protection and hand rails will be required. A davit fall arrest system is not specifically required unless it has been identified as either a control measure or as part of a rescue plan.
- Operators must be competent.
