Course Overview
This course equips participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to operate a gantry or overhead crane, covering planning, preparation, and operational servicing. Aimed at individuals working in site-based roles, this unit aligns with the National Standard for High Risk Work, focusing on practical and safety aspects of crane operation. Although this unit is crucial for understanding the fundamentals of operating gantry or overhead cranes, it does not grant a license for high-risk work. Participants are advised to understand the licensing, legislative, regulatory, and certification requirements applicable in their respective states, territories, and industry sectors before applying the skills learned in this unit.
-
Plan and Prepare for Gantry/Overhead Crane Operations: Participants will learn to access, interpret, and apply crane operation documentation to ensure compliance with regulations. They will develop the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks, select appropriate personal protective equipment, and coordinate activities with team members to ensure safe and efficient operations.
-
Operate Gantry/Overhead Crane: This section focuses on preparing loads, executing pre-start and shutdown procedures, confirming workspace safety, interpreting operation signals, and managing the lift operations to adhere to safety and performance standards.
-
Perform Gantry/Overhead Crane Operator Maintenance: Students will be trained to inspect cranes for faults, perform routine operational servicing, and maintain accurate records, contributing to the longevity and safe operation of the machinery.
