What is vacuum excavation?

Vacuum excavation is the combination of air vacuum & high-pressure water blasting to safely and effectively excavate an area.

This non-destructive form of digging is used to remove dirt, mud, slurry and more from the ground and is often used around sites where underground utilities need to be repaired or upgraded.

The process involves cutting into the ground with water and sucking the debris into a tank where is it later disposed of responsibly.

Do you need a licence to operate a VAC Truck?

Interestingly enough, there isn’t a specific VAC licence which is required to operate a vacuum truck but most construction sites to require some sort of training & experience to operate a VAC truck on-site.

Using a VAC Truck without any training is a recipe for disaster! They are unsurprisingly complex & powerful machines with quite a few different functions.

Fortunately for you, we offer a Verification of Competency training course which you can use to show your employer or construction manager that you have the skills & knowledge to conduct vacuum truck excavations.

What is involved in Vacuum Excavation training?

If you want to pursue being a vac truck operator, there are a number of skills that you need to be competent in first.

Most vacuum excavation companies require their operators to hold a MSMWJ303 - Operate a Vacuum Loading System certificate which basically verifies that you are competent in completing on-site preparation & set-up, undertake and complete a vacuum excavation job in accordance with proper procedures.
