Working Safely Near Live Electrical Apparatus As A Non-Electrical Worker - UETTDREL14A
This Competency Standard unit covers compliance with working safely up to the defined "safe approach distance" near energised electrical apparatus (Inc. electrical powerlines) for non-electrical workers and supports the attainment of skills and knowledge required to operate or observe the operation of cranes, plant, hand held tools in the vicinity of live overhead power lines and associated electrical apparatus in accordance with the current Code of Practice "Work Near Overhead Power Lines".This unit also covers the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
This course describes the skills and knowledge required to apply safe work practices near live electrical apparatus and comprises the following learning outcomes.
- Prepare to work safely by following instructions, procedures and WHS processes
- Understand the basic electrical principles of a circuit
- Identify voltage levels in the power system
- Identification of power line hazards and control measures
- Carry out work safely by applying practices to reduce incidence and accidents
- Effects of electric shock and the prevention of electric shock
- Safe working zones and distances.
- Exclusion zones
- Outline the procedure following an electrical accident
- Outline the basic requirements of relevant legislation
- CPR

Upon satisfactory completion of assessment, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the following competencies:

This can be used toward a full qualification from the Transmission, Distribution and Rail Sector Training package.
